Data

Security Sector Gender Reform Dataset: This dataset examines the gendered nature of national police and military forces and records reforms adopted to promote gender equality or gender balancing within the security sector for all countries between 1988 and 2016. The dataset includes variables on the creation of a gendered or all-female security unit, female-focused recruitment campaigns, the establishment of a gender quota or target, the adoption of a National Action Plan for UNSCR 1325, women's first participation in certain security roles, female promotion into high level security positions, the hosting of gender trainings in the police and military, and other gender reforms in police and military forces. Some of the data has been used and is publicly available in my paper with Sabrina Karim entitled "The Internationalization of Security Sector Gender Reform in Conflict and Post-Conflict Countries" in Conflict Management and Peace Science. Several of the variables in this dataset also are included in the Institutional Changes to the Security Sector Dataset with Sabrina Karim, Roya Izadi, and Ruby French.

United Nations Civilian Personnel Dataset: This data set records information on civilian UN personnel, including the nationality, gender, and sub-national location of UN agency personnel globally between 1991 and 2018 and the number of international civilian, local civilian, and volunteer personnel stationed with UN Peacekeeping, Peacebuilding, and Political Missions between 2004 and 2018.
